ALETU

Education ICT Prototype
Description

Adaptive learning for educational transformation of Uganda.

Impact

ALETU refers to two distinct systems described in the sources, each with different social and economic impacts: an Adaptive Learning Platform tailored for Uganda and a Social Networking Platform focused on graph-based connections. 1. Social Economic Impact of ALETU (Adaptive Learning Platform - Ugandan Context) The Adaptive Learning Platform focuses on transforming education in resource-limited settings to achieve scalable, equitable education. Social and Educational Impact: • Addressing Resource Limitations and Equity: ALETU is designed to personalize education for Ugandan students using the national curriculum. It addresses the fundamental problem in resource-limited settings where education often relies on one-size-fits-all teaching. • Personalization and Outcomes: The platform uses AI to simulate a responsive tutor, prioritizing knowledge gaps over rote progression. A core goal is to improve educational outcomes at scale, aiming for a mastery threshold of 90% for topic completion. • Cultural Relevance and Bias Mitigation: The platform actively works to ensure generated content is culturally relevant (Ugandan context) and accessible, emphasizing bias detection and mitigation. • Teacher Support: ALETU uses AI (LLMs and Knowledge Graphs) to generate unlimited content from limited syllabus data, which helps in reducing teacher burden. 2. Social Economic Impact of ALETU (Networking Platform - General/Portuguese Context) ALETU also functions as a networking platform designed to connect users based on shared interests, goals, and activities. Social and Engagement Impact: • Facilitating Connections: The platform generates AI-generated connection suggestions (Recommendations) using graph-based recommendations and Node2Vec embeddings. This enables users to form relationships (Connections) and manage social and professional interactions via scheduling capabilities (Meetings). • Engagement and Motivation: ALETU utilizes gamification elements such as Achievements and progress tracking to boost engagement. It also incorporates real-time features like WebSocket for instant messaging and updates. • Privacy and Localization: Key design principles include being Privacy First, meaning all user data is private by default, and focusing on the Portuguese Language for all UI text and responses.
