Essymart Africa
Description
Essymart Africa is an Agricultural Technology enterprise that supports smallholder farmers in Uganda to increase their productivity and improve livelihoods by use of WebApp, SMS & Voice calls. Founded in 2020, the organization provides a holistic bundle of services including access to high-quality seeds, pesticides and fertilizers, training in modern farming techniques, financing, and post-harvest support. Essymart works directly with farmers, often in remote rural areas, helping them grow more food and earn more income from their land. With a focus on sustainability and long-term impact, Essymart partners with farmers cooperatives, VSLA groups, Farmers groups, and sales agents to scale its model. We currently serve over 5,000 farmers across countries like Mayuge, Iganga, Bugiri, Namayingo, Kaliro and Bugweri. By empowering farmers, Essymart aims to combat hunger and poverty at the root level.
Impact
Here are some of the measurable outcomes and impacts from our work in Uganda: Scale of reach: Over 5,000 smallholder farmers are served in Uganda. Increased yields & income: Farmers working with Essymart often see significant increases in yields (from better inputs, training) and in incomes / farm profits. One source mentions that incomes tend to be around 40‑45% higher than for non‑participating farmers. Food security: By improving harvests, our work helps reduce hunger and ensure a more stable food supply for families. Investment in household welfare: Surplus income is often invested in schooling, in nutrition, business opportunities, and other livelihood improvements. Resilience: With our soil health practices, Soil testing, agroforestry, crop diversification, farmers are more able to withstand shocks (droughts, pests, market fluctuations).
Target Audience
Essymart’s target customers are smallholder farmers in rural Uganda who typically farm less than two acres of land. These farmers often lack access to quality inputs, credit, training, and markets. The organization focuses on serving low-income, last-mile farmers to help them increase yields, income, and food security.
