GWC AquiSaver: Precision Irrigation for Climate-Smart Farming

Agriculture ICT Climate & Environment Pilot
Description

The GWC AquiSaver is a smart irrigation system developed by Green World Challenge that leverages Industry 4.0 technology to combat water scarcity and enhance crop productivity. By utilizing soil moisture sensors and an Arduino-based control unit, it automates water delivery, ensuring optimal hydration for plants while reducing water usage by up to 60% compared to traditional methods. This solution directly supports Uganda's goals for sustainable agriculture, import substitution of agri-tech, and building resilience against climate change.

Impact

The GWC AquiSaver directly addresses critical national challenges by increasing farmers' yields and profitability, promoting food and water security (a cornerstone of NDP IV), and empowering smallholder farmers with affordable, locally-made technology. It builds climate resilience by drastically reducing water waste.
